3 BR – 2 BA house and casita for rent in Atenas, Costa Rica
Available April 15, 2026 – November 15, 2026 (possibly longer) $1800 per month
Conveniently located living spaces – less than 3 km to “downtown” Atenas (which
claims to have “the worlds’ most perfect climate!” Average daily temps between
65F and 85F all year make both heating and air conditioning unnecessary!) – 3
bedrooms, 2 full baths with generous walk-in tiled showers, 2 living rooms, 2 full
kitchens, and three separate “ranchos” (outdoor living spaces that are protected
from rain.) total approx. 1800 sq ft.
The main house has two bedrooms (queen mattresses) with the most private and
intimate rancho (9’ x 11’) opening directly off the master bedroom. A cozy guest
bedroom, full bath with shower, lots of living space, and a full kitchen make up the
rest of the main house.
Directly behind the kitchen of the main house is the largest of the three ranchos –
(15’ x 18.’) A covered walkway leads from there to the smallest of the three
ranchos (11’ x 13’) directly off the kitchen of the casita. The casita rancho has
delightful views of forested hills to the south. To the east, the view is through the
back portion of the property, and at night, you can see the sprawling lights of
Alajuela and other suburbs on the floor of the Central Valley.
The house and casita are situated near the front of a narrow but deep property --
almost 4 acres – which is mostly covered in coffee, banana, plantain, avocado,
mango, and tangerine trees, and largely shaded by much bigger trees, so walking
through it feels like walking in a park. The main trail leads 800’ down a gentle
slope to the confluence of a small river (which flows all year) and a smaller creek
which, during the rainy season, cascades down 20’ of tumbled rock making a small
waterfall. At the far end of the trail, closest to the river and the waterfall, a
meditation bench awaits your contemplative visits.
Solar heated hot water is provided to both the main house and casita. Rent
includes internet and all other utilities as well as bi-monthly cleaning service and
twice-weekly visits by a gardener who will water all the plants. A laundry room
with north-American style washer and electric dryer is conveniently located off the
main rancho between the house and the casita.

Atenas is often cited as one of the most popular of all destinations for expats
moving to – or considering – a more permanent life in Costa Rica. There are three
factors: “The world’s most perfect climate,” easy access (to “big city” offerings in
San Jose, Pacific beaches, and the international airport,) and a wonderfully
welcoming “pura vida” vibe from the locals.

Application with references required, as well as a lease for the duration of the
rental. Non-smokers only, and small pets will be considered, but only with additional security deposit.
